Mama-Me-Ah! - Facilitator Bios

 Robyn Reed Gaddy
Robyn Reed Gaddy

Master of Science in Experiential Education and Hakomi Counselor.

Robyn Gaddy has worked for the last sixteen years as a facilitator, educator and director in the non-profit field.

She is the founder and Executive Director of Girls on the Move, a national initiative of Outward Bound USA (site will open in a new window) that brought together Fortune 500 companies, national service organizations and public and private schools to increase the self esteem of young girls and women across the country.

Through this experience she facilitated a team of sixty-five women on a ten-week national bicycle expedition. In her tenure as a facilitator and educator, Robyn has facilitated women intensive wellness workshops in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Oregon.

She has served as a Program Director for the North Carolina Outward Bound School, a professor for Warren Wilson College and taught Speech Communications for Blue Ridge Community College.

As a published writer, Robyn combines creative mediums of art and writing with reflection and discussion so that we can better understand our role as mother, partner and human being.

Other relevant merits: Ability to make up forgotten lyrics while singing loudly off-key. Specializes in applauding her family with cowgirl screams and wearing daughter's leftover food as a broach; lives for the sound of pitter-patter feet and the peace that only comes with long rocking chair hugs.

Lisa Foisy studied at Tamalpa Institute (site will open in a new window), an internationally recognized school in the field of Expressive Arts Therapy and Education. She uses the tools of the Life/Art Process in both the Weekend Retreat and the Mother Monologues.

While Director of the Women's Center at the University of Oregon, Lisa developed the Relational Leadership Program, where she taught leadership classes and Passionate Journey workshops also using the Life/Art Process.

Past professional experience includes working at the North Carolina Outward Bound School where she developed the "Women of Courage" program and designed, marketed and convened the first National Conference "Women's Leadership in the Outdoors".

At Minnesota State University, Lisa developed curriculum for and instructed an 11-week class, "Art and Activism". The class produced an art show "Grandmothers", a video, a radio show, and a weaving for the 1995 Beijing International Women's Conference. With 20 years of experience teaching and facilitating groups, Lisa is committed to bringing our stories to life through art, writing and performance.

Other relevant merits: Experience in child chaos with specialty as distraught-mother-in-emergency room; ability to acclimate to high decibel cacophony; not very accomplished multi-tasker if own child's needs is one of those tasks; type of mom likely to find her keys in the fridge and wonder how they got there.

Life/Art Process
The Life/Art Process "is committed to the exploration and application of movement/ dance and art as a healing and educational force. It draws from the wisdom of the body and the creativity of the imagination as a source for authentic expression, artful communication and new ways of learning and living."

The process uses the tools of drawing, reflection/writing, and movement. The "guiding purpose is to explore and respond to the question of how the expressive arts might contribute to a more embodied, creative, and participatory world in which art as a healing force is fostered."
